Our skilled mould makers use a plastic model of the final design to create the rubber moulds used for centrifugal casting.
What is mould making?
Mould making is the first step in producing almost every cast piece we make. Before any metal is poured, our mould makers create the mould that will give each medal, pin or crest its shape and detail. For centrifugal casting, that means a rubber mould. For sand casting, it means preparing the pattern that is set into the sand.
How do we make moulds at Strath Craft?
It starts with your design, whether you supply finished artwork or work with our graphic design team. Our mould makers then use a plastic model of the final piece to create a rubber mould that captures every raised letter, line and texture.
Because moulds are made in-house at our London, Ontario facility, we control the detail from the very beginning. We also keep your mould on file for five years, so repeat orders don't start from scratch.
What is mould making used for?
Every custom medallion, lapel pin and cast crest begins with a mould. Once it's ready, the mould moves on to centrifugal casting, where it can produce hundreds or thousands of identical pieces.
